I am a 30-something mom, teacher and wife who lives in Western Pennsylvania with my 6 year old son, Builder Boy, my husband, Remodel Man, and our two very fat, very lazy cats, The Deconstructors. We are working on restoring a 130 year old Queen Anne Victorian home to its original splendor…if only we had the money to do it! My husband does all of his own work, so the process is slow going.
For the past 8 years, we have been dealing with infertility-first of the primary nature, now of the secondary nature. Builder Boy was our miracle baby…conceived “easily” after only sixteen months of trying and only two months on Clomid. It seemed so hard at the time, but in retrospect, knowing what we know now, that part of this journey was a piece of cake! Wanting our son to have a sibling and wanting to parent another child, we continued our journey: first more Clomid, then 4 medicated IUIs, then 2 IVFs, plus lots of tests to round out the pack. The diagnosis? Unexplained infertility. Gotta love that…In the past two years, we have added three pregnancy losses to our list of infertility fun-two early and unexplained losses and a complete molar pregnancy. Yep, it's been fun...
In an effort to fill our very empty lives during our first round of infertility, we bought our Victorian house. While not in horrible condition, like any old house, every project leads to 10 other projects which leads to even more money going out the doors. At times it feels like the money pit, but the end result will be worth it. And we think our house is happy with what we’ve done so far.
This is our story…of renovating our home and attempting to heal our hearts.
